San Diego REPertory Theatre presents “In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play),” written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Sam Woodhouse. In an upstate New York spa town in 1885, a gynecologist treats “women’s problems” in his home office through the use of a newly designed (and effective) electric vibrator. His “successes and failures” launch seven curious men and women on a spirited quest for new adventures and happiness. This very special new comedy is about the politics of desire and sexuality. It is a tender, funny and insightful exploration of the conundrums of love, equality, motherhood, sensory experience, fertility, intimacy and marriage.
